The 2008 Australian Catalogue Awards represented 17 years of recognition of excellence in catalogue design and effectiveness.
Over the last decade we have witnessed an increasing sophistication and quality in catalogue presentation and an increasing acceptance of catalogues as mainstream advertising.
This growth of the catalogue as an advertising medium continues to astound many onlookers but catalogue advertising is popular for a lot of reasons – not the least of them being that it simply works!
As a result, the judging panel reviewed more than 700 entries this year across 7 categories and 35 awards in Sydney and Melbourne.
Out of the 35 possible Australian Catalogue Awards, a total of eleven were awarded for work produced by IPMG companies.
In other words, almost one third of the entire tally of Australian Catalogue Awards this year went to catalogues produced by the member companies of IPMG.
Six Australian Catalogues Awards were awarded to catalogues produced by Hannanprint NSW for clients including Freedom, Generic Publications and Betts Group; and three Awards went to catalogues produced by Hannanprint Victoria for Barbeques Galore.
A catalogue printed by Offset Alpine Printing for Westfields was honoured with an Award, whilst Sinnott Bros was the agency that produced another winning catalogue for Rebel Sport.
Each entry was critic ally assessed by up to 8 judges, who scored the various key elements that make up a catalogue, including the impact of front covers, photography, merchandising, styling, branding, design, layout, copywriting, selling power, printing and production.
In the words of Chris Lee Brown, CEO Australian Catalogue Association, the award winning catalogues “…are examples of the finest catalogues ever produced in terms of layout, art style, use of form and colour, and the true litmus test of a catalogue, catalogue effectiveness.”
