Earlier this year, Alpha Flight Services asked PMG Solutions to review its on board TV advertisement (TVC) promoting the In Sky Shopping magazine and inflight duty free shopping.
With a limited budget, PMG Solutions produced a highly successful 60 second TVC which resulted in a significant sales increase for Alpha.
The commercial is a combination of 2-D animation, 3-D animation and motion graphics, made by the productionlounge, one of Australia’s most innovative animation companies.
Max Bannah, a lecturer in animation at Queensland University of Technology, is one of the few animation artists still creating traditional 2-D work. Max hand drew all the characters and all the in-betweens that make up their moves. He also drew the foreground and background layers.
The postlounge’s After-FX computer program was then used to hand paint each scene and also make the camera moves, such as zooms and pans.
The result is a strikingly different, fun commercial principally using the Qantas colours of red, black and white. It’s a great example of Australian creative and artistic skills combined with modern technology.
Add to that formula the voice of the irrepressible Tom Baker, (Dr Who and Little Britain), and you have a commercial that will work its magic on everyone who flies Qantas. |
