An Incredible Surfing Experience

Two lucky Australian surfers will share a unique international wavechasing experience and become a part of the sport's history for a one week period between September and November this year.

They will cruise aboard the Quiksilver Crossing in the Caribbean joining a team of top Quiksilver riders led by Australian and former touring professional Matt Hoy scouring the Caribbean for the ultimate wave.

The Crossing is a 72 foot exploratory vessel that is searching for new surfing locations and also serving as a floating research station, allowing Reef Check scientists to survey reefs that would otherwise be inaccessible.

Since 1999 the Crossing has hosted nearly 300 surfers, scientists and media on board and has covered 46,944 nautical miles – north from Australia through the coral sea, east across the South Pacific Ocean to French Polynesia, then returning along a different South Pacific route and across to Indonesia, then north-west through the Indian Ocean to the Maldives.

The Reef Check program is supported by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).

“This is an exciting and unique opportunity which every surfer on the Australian coast will want”, said Peter Morrison, publisher of Australia's Surfing Life that is offering the prize nationally.

Australia’s Surfing Life has been part of the Australian scene for 17 years and is the stablemate of other magazines from the Gold Coast-based Aussie company, Morrison Media including Australian Long Boarding, Riptide, Chick, Slam, Freerider MX, Australian Snowboarder and the Visions series of coffee table books.

“ASL is really pleased to be part of this project”, said Peter “you could not put a price on such a unique experience”

“Not only will two people get to fly to the Caribbean and spend an incredible seven days among some of the world’s best surfers in one of the world’s most beautiful places, but we’ll follow them every step of the way with articles in ASL, that all their mates will be able to see."

Details of the promotion and entry forms will be published in the April and May issues of Australia’s Surfing Life. The April issue will be at newsagents and selected surf shops on March 5.

Other features of the April issue include the 2003 peer poll awards where the best rate the best in the only poll of its kind in surfing; Power Points – Four standout performers: Taj Burrow, Dean Morrison, Damien Hobgood & Flea Virostko show off their strengths in perfect indo surf; Aluminium surfboards – a one page expose`; the 2003 winter wetsuite guide & the first in ASL’s new surfing technique series starring current world ranked number two Joel Parkinson.
